1. Collar and Throat Tab
The Collar on a Globe garment is unlike any offered in the industry. Only Globe Collars feature an ergonomic 2-piece design, providing form and function. Left and right side panels are sewn together with a center seam, giving the Collar shape. This contoured design follows the natural lines of the neck and head resulting in more comfort and protection. 3 layers of your specified Moisture Barrier line the inside of the Collar. The rear layer of Moisture Barrier is quilt-stitched to the back of the Collar with 4 rows of lateral stitching. Multi-layer design and quilt stitching trap air, increasing thermal protection and also providing stability to keep the Collar standing or folded down.
The 4-layer Throat Tab is also lined with your specified Moisture Barrier and works with the Collar for a hassle-free interface with any SCBA Face Mask. When properly worn, all Velcro® attachments are covered, eliminating exposure from heat and flame.
A double layer Moisture Barrier extension on the Liner tucks inside the Collar and attaches with front and rear rows of Velcro® for no-gap protection and greater comfort.
2. Action Back
The Action Back feature is similar to those seen on many military and high performance garments. First introduced to the fire industry on the GX-7 Jacket, its benefits are 2-fold, incorporating both ergonomics and protection.
Two inverted expansion pleats on the Shell extend vertically from the shoulder down the sides of the Jacket to the hem. A single expansion pleat in the center of the Liner system works in concert with the Outer Shell pleats to maximize expansion. Engineered to work with an SCBA, this ergonomic design provides stress-free, unrestricted movement when reaching up or forward.
The Action Back feature also reduces the likelihood of compression burns.
As you reach forward in a conventional system, the Jacket's layers are
compressed against the upper back, arm and shoulders. With the Action
Back feature, the layers expand outward creating a pocket of air. Since
air is a great insulator against heat, this expanding action works to
eliminate the compression of material that can contribute to burns in
this area.
3. Sleeve Wells
The Sleeve Wells on Globe garments are designed to comfortably interface with any glove. A 5” deep double layer of neoprene lines the end of the sleeves and attaches to the standard 4” NOMEX® Wristers. The Liner sleeve is neatly incorporated into the Sleeve Well and attaches at the base of the NOMEX® Wrister with 4 Snap Fasteners. This overlap assures full thermal protection against heat and steam in a lightweight, low bulk design.
For more coverage choose our 8” Hand and Wrist Guards that fit over the thumb, available in NOMEX®, KEVLAR® or Pbi®. Each knit Wrister is attached as shown or can be ordered attached to the Liner Sleeves incorporating our elasticized Sleeve Wells.
4. Thermal Enhancements
Air can be a great insulator against heat if it’s harnessed correctly. But in areas of high compression, such as the shoulders, air will vanish under the weight of an SCBA strap, leaving only the protective insulative properties of the materials. The thicker the layers, the higher the protection, so areas of high compression should incorporate extra layers.
For greater Conductive and Compressive Heat Resistance (CCHR), no turnout compares to Globe. An additional layer of your specified Thermal Liner material is sewn to the shoulders, fronts, upper back and elbows of the Liner system for increased thermal insulation – not just a thin single layer of spunlace material, but a full extra layer of Thermal Liner material. The thermal enhancements drape over the shoulders and extend 5” down the front and 7 1/2” down the back of the Liner system providing a protective shield against thermal loading from above.
5. TRIMTRAX™
Patented system of abrasion resistant cording protects the thread securing our reflective trim from abrasion. Lasts approximately 7 times longer so maintenance costs are lower and your gear is in service more often. Learn more about TRIMTRAX™.
6. Dual Action Pockets
Measuring 9”X9”, the standard Dual Action Pockets feature 2 expansion pleats on the front and a separate hand warmer pocket underneath. They are double-stitched to the Shell with an extra layer of Outer Shell reinforcing the lower half. The lower pocket corners are cut to facilitate complete water drainage. Generous portions of Velcro® secure the flap but allow easy access to the pocket.
